Regenerating the Existing Road into a Beautiful Avenue That Symbolizes the District

This project is to renovate the existing road Asao Route 2 in Shinyuri-Yamate district, a 37 hectares new town stretching out the walking distance of Shinyurigaoka Station on the Odakyu Line, developed due to the Manpukuji Land Readjustment Project. Since the existing road runs through the central part of the district for 300 meters long, we aimed to create a beautiful avenue that would symbolize Shinyuri-Yamate. First, we planned to set back all the buildings along the road for 10 meters to make a 13 meters wide sidewalk on each side with enough open spaces. The whole avenue, including the road and both sidewalks, would be 36 meters wide. Second, we designed two rows of trees on each side to make a greener landscape. Lastly, we installed 25 classic gas lamps at part of both sidewalks, 100 meters long from the end of the road, which is the intersection heading to Shinyurigaoka Station. This central avenue with rich greenery and beautiful lamps improved the district's image and became a symbol of Shinyuri-Yamate.
